Shri Vishnu Sahasranama The Ultimate Jyotish Remedial Measure.
In Charaka Samhita, written by the famous Ancient Indian Physician Caraka, it is said that " If all the medications ( recommended or non-recommended ) fail in providing relief, then one should recite Sri Vishnu Sahasranama as a last resort." This is present in Cikitsa Sthanam, Chapter 8, Verse 311 of Caraka Samhita. The verse is given here under :
viShNum sahasra moordhaanam caraacara patim vibhum |
stuvan naama sahasrENa jwaraan sarvaan vyapOhati ||
which means when one propitiates Lord Vishnu, who is Lord of the entire Universe, through this Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam, all types of jwaraas ( fever, ill health, illness ) will leave them at once.
Also, in mantra maharnavam, one of the standard works of Mantra & Tantra, it is said that
anEna maMtritaM bhasma viSha graha mahaa bhayaan |
naaSayEt aciraat EvaM viShNOrnaama prabhaavata : |
which means when one sanctifies the sacred ash ( bhasma or vibhuti ) with Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam, and when this ash is consumed as medicine, all the poison, ghosts, grahas will perish and one will be fearless of the above.
In the classic text, the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, the Sage Parashara frequently recommends the recitation of the Vishnu Sahasranam, the thousand names of Vishnu, as the best remedial measure for planetary afflictions. Vishnu means "the all-pervading Divinity." See the following verse:
"The most effective and beneficial remedial measure for the prolongation of longevity and to obtain relief from other evil effects is recitation of Vishnu Sahasranam." ch 56 verse 30
Sage Parashara mentions this practice on at least 10 different occasions in his text. Here's another verse:
"The remedial measure to obtain relief from the above evil effects, is recitation of Vishnu Sahasranam." ch 59 verse 77
Sri K.N. Rao is also a strong proponent of this practice. Not only does he recite it everyday himself but he regularly recommends it to clients.
Traditionally, students of Sanskrit were often required to memorize the Vishnu Sahasranam. It takes about 20 minutes to recite depending on the speed of recitation. While recitation is preferred, just listening to the recitation by an audio recording also gives great benefit. Another form of practice is to read the text along with the translation so that the meaning also becomes integrated. Another practice is just to take one name and meditate on it's meaning. For instance, the first of the thousand names is "Vishvam" which translates as "the All," and one could contemplate the meaning of this name as a meditative practice.
The Vishnu Sahasranam was mentioned in the great epic text The Mahabharata. The 1000 names were handed down to Yudhisthira by sage Bhishma while he was on his death bed at the battle of Kurukshetra. Yudhisthira asked Bhishma the following questions:
1. Who is the one Lord of all in this universe?
2. What is that one supreme goal which one should seek to attain?
3. Who is the one Divinity by praising and by worshiping whom a man attains good?
4. Which is that highest form of Dharma that is capable of bestowing salvation and prosperity on man?
5. What is that by reciting which any living being can attain freedom from cycle of births and deaths?
Sage Bhishma answered by stating that mankind will be free from all sorrows by chanting the Vishnu Sahasranam. He said, "That man who hears the names every day or who recites them every day, never meets with any evil either here or hereafter." This quote suggests that it's not necessary to recite the sahasranam oneself to get the benefit, but can simply be listened to on an audio recording.
There are many sahasranam hymns (thousand names) to various deities like the Sri Lalita Sahasranam or the Shiva Sahasranam, which Sage Parashara also recommends in the Brihat Parasahara Hora Shastra. But of all remedial measures like puja (worship), yagya (fire ceremony), mantra recitation, giving charities, he gives primary importance to the Vishnu Sahasranam.

Astrological importance of Sri Vishnu Sahasranama
As mentioned above recitation and meditation of Sri Vishnu Sahasranama Stotra can help anyone who is seeking relief from various problems and can fulfill his or her desires.
Helps minimizing evil combinations/affliction of planets as indicated in one’s birth chart. One can also heal through and overcome various curses and misfortunes.
Many astrological classics including Bṛhat Parāśara Horāśāstra have mentioned its use to obtain peace and relief in difficult situations. In fact it is a universal remedy to pacify and empower all planets in one’s birth chart.
Difficult periods indicated in a person’s birth chart including:
Dashas and antadashas of death inflicting planets(marak periods) and functionally malefic planets.
Difficult transits of Rahu, Ketu or Saturn especially over Luminaries, that is, natal Sun and Moon.
When transiting Jupiter moves through one’s 8th House.
Weak and inauspicious Sun, Moon, Lagna(Ascendant) Lord as indicated in one’s birth chart.
Incurable diseases, health problems, fear, anxiety and low state of confidence and self-esteem.
Financial losses, conflicts and poor economic condition.
Problems with progeny and any problem affecting children.
Marital problems and divorce conflicts.
Ensuring success in exams, business ventures and other competition.
Natural disasters or when one’s country/state is in a state of turmoil and distress.
Spiritual progress and grace of Lord Vishnu.
To fulfill any other desire or overcome any difficulty.

Vishnu sahastranama and secret of Jyotish
VISHNU SAHASRANAMA AND SECRETS OF JYOTISH
All our Aacharyas, Shastras, Puranas always highlighted the ever powerful Vishnu sahasranama Stotram, which is the means for solution to all ills not only prevailing in the society as a whole but also in any individual on account of various reasons including some grahadosha.
The new generation must understand the values and continue to follow the Vedic principles. If one knows his/her constellatilon known as Nakshatra and it's Padam (quarter in which they are born of a nakshatra), they can surely find out the related Vishnusahasranama stanza that aptly linked to their star and by reciting it often one would get immense benefits.
The 108 shlokas (shloka) of Sri Vishnusahasranaama Stotram remove all the ills associated with any grahadosha to any chanter of any Nakshatram (Stars viz.constellations) and provides supreme solace and supreme bliss.
There are 27 Nakshatram starting from Aswini and ending with Revati.
Each Nakshatram has four Paadas.
Thus 108 shlokas correspond to 27 X 4 nakshatra padams. Thus a person born in Aswini 1st Paadam can chant first slokha, Bharani 1st padams can chant 5th slokha and so on for respective Nakshatra Saanthi.
A person not sure of one's Nakshatra can chant all the 108 shlokas and get rid of all ills associated with one's Nakshatram and attain sampoorna shaanti.
There is no need for any other means at all to achieve success in any issue.
Every person has a Shlokam from Vishnu Sahasranama Stotram, based on his or her birth star and paadam. On chanting that Shlokam everyday, the perosn attains spiritual and material benefits. To know what is your Shlokam you have to follow the method explained here:

Your shlokam is that which corresponds to the serial number of paadam inwhich you are born. For example, if your star is Rohini, paadam is 3rd, your slokam no. = Ashwini 4 +Bharani 4 + Kruttika 4 + Rohini 3 = 15th shlokam of Vishnu Sahasranaama Stotram, which is "Lokaadhyakshassuraadhyaksho..."
This is the list of nakshathras and the sets of shlokam numbers for each star:

Daily concentrated reading of VSS will activate the Kundalini and other Chakras too. VSS contains the 1008 names of the Bhagawan. It was compiled by Sage Veda Vyaasa, and is a part of Mahaabhaaratam.
In Mahaabhaaratam, it is told by Bheeshma on his 'ampasayya' to Yudhishtthira (Dharma Raaja) who wanted to know what is the way to attain Moksha..., who asks "ko dharmassarvadharmaanaam bhavatah pramo mataha, kim japan muchyate jantur janmasamsaarabandhanaat ," meaning, which is the greatest dharma and by chanting what do we attain Moksha. Bheeshma chants the VSS to Pandavaas who were present before him at that time.Mahaabhaaratam has got immense sanctity, only because of two holy things forming part of it: The Bhagawad Gita and The Vishnu Sahasranaama Sthothram.
