Four corner stone of relationship

Moon the most important factors used to evaluate relationship success and failure.

The moon represents manas, the mental faculty that determines the life experiences to which our senses are attracted (which promote raga), the one that senses try to avoid (which promote dvesha). While a strong, well placed Moon in a horoscope tends to produce a stable enjoyable sensory and emotional life, a disturbed moon imbalances one's sensory and emotional existence.

The moon's condition is critical to an individual's welfare that much of Jyotisha has since the days of its origin, been framed around it.

Four corner stone of relationship life

  • Ascendant to Ascendant
  • Moon to Moon
  • Sun to Sun
  • Venus to Venus
Cornerstone analysis interprets the nature of interaction of the innate tendencies (vasna) of the two people. Lasting inharmonious relationships do occur in life. Persitence of the marriage is directly determined by Karma and indirectly by Vasna.

Marital karma is examined by scruitinizing the horoscope's 7th bhava, seventh lord, and significator of the marriage. Harmony will flourish with difficulty in the lives of any couple that lacks at least one pair of cornerstone that are agreeable placed relative to one another.

These cornerstone will, however on;y deliver their full potential when the other grahas copperate. To weave the complete garment, we need to interlace the  strands of Jupiter,Mercury, Mars, Rahu and Ketu.

Even though the foundation is firmly based on good connection, the influejnce of natural malefics can disturb the developmenet of satisfying relationship. It is the influence of natural benefics and Malefics on these primary and secondary links that really helps to determine whether attraction will ensure concious harmony or conflict for two people involved.

when the respective Jupiters of two horoscope influence the four cornerstones (and for marriage, if possible, the 7th bhava and its lord), the two people involved will (all other things being equal) be inclined to influence each other favourably during their liason. They will share common constructive values, offer one another good advice, treat each other with respect, and otherwise ennoble the marrige, provided that Jupiter is strong and preferably rules good bhava

When Jupiter influences other's  Sun, he will promote support for the fundamental outlook, philosophy, integrity and authority of the other.

When Jupiter influences the moon, stabalizes and calm the other emotionally, promoting an equitable sharing of domestic responsibility. He nurtures while supporting and embelising the other's emotions, creating a savory and satisfying life rasa.

When Jupiter touches Venus, his guidance will help the partner harmonize witih one another and will offer suggestions on how best to enjoy their mutual desires.

Jupiter's support on ascendanr facilitates support for other's environment by providing good councel on where and how to live and work, how much money to spend and what to spend on and so on

Relationship -Outcome and Skills working together

Relationship Skills:

Our method of skill analysis becomes particularly important when it comes to cultivating greater awareness of how we habitually relate socially.

Susambhandha:

This yoga promises generally good relationship skills in life. This occurs when multiple Grahas  (Karyesha or a Karaka) creates harmonious "skill" placement with the ascendant lord

  •  A person (indicated by Ascendant lord ) is likely to have an inborn ability to relate well with those people (indicated by the bhava lord)  that occupy the 3rd, 5th, 9th or 11th bhavas as counted from Ascendant lord. (good relationship skills)
  • The stronger these Grahs are, the greater the rapport will be.
  • If the Grahas are friends to the ascendant lord, the rapport will be further signified.
  • The influence of natural benefic on the pertinent grahs will further enhance the rapport
  • The same series of principle applies (to a reduced extent) to the people indicated by a Karaka placed as above.

Grahas that are friendly and occupy a harmonious relative grah placement are akin to two leaders who respect and admire one another while sharing similar views.

3/11 and 5/9 placement from Asc enables the native to bring good relationship skills to bear to the situation even if the Karyesha is afflicted.

Dusambhandha

Relationship difficulties likely to abound in life when a large number of inimical disposition occur between the lord of 1st bhava and other grahas in its horoscope.

  • A person (indicated by Ascendant lord ) is likely to have difficulties relating with those people (indicated by the bhava lord)  that occupy the 6th, 8th or 12th bhava bhavas as counted from Ascendant lord. (bad relationship skill)
  • The weaker  these Grahs are, the greater the difficulties will be.
  • If the Grahas are inimical to the ascendant lord, the difficulties are magnified.
  • The influence of natural malefic on the pertinent grahs will further enhance these difficulties
  • The same series of principle applies (to a reduced extent) to the people indicated by a Karaka placed as above.

Two grahas that are reciprocally inimical and occupy an inharmonious relative grah placement (6/8, 2/12) are mote likely to remain openly hostile, like the ruthless terrorist and officer of the law in pursuit.

Two grahas that are friends but whose relative placement is inharmonious resemble two politicians whose values and views agree, but whose personal chemistry is off. Their mutual antipathy will often prevent them from cooperating, even when it is in their mutual interest to do so.

One-one relationship:

Grah in one-one relationship actively influence each other, in a way that depends upon their nature and placement. They are forced to interact with each other just like the passengers thrown together in the elevator.

With this placement, we must ask, whether this interaction will be to their mutual benefit or to their detriment.

Outcome

Outcome of a relationship with any particular individual is determined by the

  • condition of the bhava
  • its lord (position as counted from Asc)
  • its significator

Your skill at relating are indicated by the relative placement of the grah with each other

true meaning of Mahashiv Ratri

The following summary captures the theme of Sri Sw. Viditatmanandaji's moving explanation of the true meaning of Mahashiv Ratri

Sri Swamiji explained the significance of the symbol of the Sivalingam, an elliptical form that represents a flame with its power to annihilate the darkness in our minds and hearts by awakening and illuminating our true self. Swamiji recounted the stories of Lord Siva's revelation to Lord BrahmA and Lord Visnu as a column of fire, of light, of knowledge. The sacred sites of Kasi and Tiruvannamalai, Swamiji recounted, became sthalas of Lord Siva where some of the PurAnAs state that self-manifest forms of Lord Siva appeared and have become renowned pilgrimage sites.

As we surrender to the feet of Lord S़va in our worship of Him on MahAsivarAtri, the focal points of our worship should be bhakti and sraddhA.

Sri Swamiji explained the significance of MahAsivarAtri puja vidhi and japam. As we offer milk, honey, yogurt, GangA jal in the abhisekam, it symbolizes the vritti, the constant flow of our thoughts converging into the Lord; Swamiji stressed that just as we want to offer the best substances to the Lord, in the same way, we should strive for inner purification to offer our purest devotion. By worshipping the sivalingam, we commit ourselves to removing the darkness of ignorance with Lord Siva's manifestation as knowledge in our hearts. We should have the attitude that whatever the Lord gives is the best for me and given to me by the Lord for my welfare; we must have sraddha and trust that IsharA, the Lord, is my well-wisher, and gracefully accept that what comes is not as important as where it comes from-Is़warA. With s़raddhA that the Lord has designated all these for me, whatever they may be, pleasant or painful should be our attitude in devotion, acceptance, and surrender. The true prostration, the namaha culminates into oneness with the Lord. May Lord Siva enhance our shraddha and bhakti, our inner growth, into light of knowledge in our hearts.

Gandanta

 What is Gandanta?

Gandanta is a Sanskrit word that is derived from gaNDa meaning bubble, joint, spot, knot and anta meaning end, termination, dividing line. In Vedic Astrology, we take this to mean the knot at the dividing line. This bubble or knot at the dividing line occurs between water and fire signs of the sidereal zodiac. The reason there is a dividing line is because there is an abrupt stop and re-start at these junctures because there is not a Nakshatra to carry the energy from one sign to the next. These three locations of the zodiac between Cancer & Leo, Scorpio & Sagittarius, and Pisces & Aries are where gandanta occurs.

This table will provide a picture worth 1,000 words about the Nakshatras ending and beginning at this gantanta points. Each Nakshatra is 13°20’ in length. This can be divided into four padas of 3°20’ each. Pada means foot, step, or quarter.

Notice how the Nakshatras of Krittika, Uttara Phalguni & Uttara Ashada have one pada in fire and three padas in earth. Notice how the Nakshatras of Mrigashira, Chitra & Shravana have one two padas in earth and two in air. Notice how the Nakshatras of Punarvasu, Vishaka & Purva Bhadrapada have three padas in air and one in water. These Nakshatras exist over the edges of the signs, thus making the transition from one sign to the next easier.  There is no Nakshatra that exists partially in water signs and partially in fire signs. Therefore, there is a distinct dividing line here at these three junctures of the zodiac were water ends and fire begins.

These dividing lines mark three different processes of evolution: The Aries – Cancer process of individuation, the Leo – Scorpio process of materialization, and the Sagittarius – Pisces process of spiritualization.  This process of evolution is an important key to understanding the Nakshatras. Lord Brahma charged Daksha Prajapati to assist him with the cosmic evolutionary process. To do so, Prajapati wed his 27 daughters to the Moon, whom spends a day with each as he circles the zodiac.

How much of the water & fire signs are said to be gandanta?

Gandanta is not the entire water or fire signs. It is not even the entire last Nakshatra of water or the first entire Nakshatra of fire. However, there are two differing opinions on how much of the edge of the water and fire signs are included in gandanta.

Some say that gandanta exists for a pada at the edge of these signs –  one-fourth of a Nakshatra equal to 3°20’ of celestial longitude (zodiacal degrees) on either side. This point of view sees a planet in gandanta when it is located at the end of the water signs from 26°40’00” – 29°59’59 (of Cancer, Scorpio & Pisces) and the beginning of the fire signs from 00°00’00” – 03°19’59” (of Aries, Leo & Sagittarius).

Others say true Nakshatra Gandanta is only 48 minutes of celestial longitude on either side of the water/fire juncture.  But why 48 minutes? Ancient Vedic texts break down time in a multitude of ways. For instance, everywhere on the planet, we break down our day in to 24 hours, and we break down an hour into 60 minutes and we break down our minutes into 60 seconds. When we break down the day into 60 parts we get what is called a ghati, a unit of time equal to 24 minutes. When we break down the day into 30 parts we get what is called a muhurta, a unit of time equal to 48 minutes or two ghatis. This point of view sees gandanta as one muhurta at the end of the water signs from 29°12’00 – 29°59’59” (of Cancer, Scorpio & Pisces) and at the beginning of fire signs from 00°00’00” – 00°47’59”.  0°48 would begin the next muhurta.

Gandanta, no matter which way you define its length, is a very powerful spot at a dividing line of the zodiac. It is like a powerful spiritual bubble where energies are trapped.  As such when planets pass through these gandanta portions of the zodiac, it is very powerful.  The planets grasp and hold onto the karmas of the sign and indicate how we can get stuck instead of moving forward. We must understand the role this plays in our evolution to release the grasp, pop the bubble, or untie the knot so we can get un-stuck and move forward with our destiny.

At this point in my journey into the seemingly infinite depths of Vedic Astrology, I consider the 48-minute gandanta to most definitely be operating. By my logic, the 48-minute gandanta would indicate the tightest of knots capable of giving the most powerful effects as both viewpoints include this portion. I have found this to be consistently true in my consultations with clients. I am still undecided about the 3°20’ portion being gandanta. In my consultations, I have found this to be inconsistent, more like “hit or miss.” With the “hits,” the story is not as intense as it moves away from that 48-minute slot. With the “misses,” a story can be found but it doesn’t necessarily outweigh other stories in the chart. So, I always use the 48-minute gandanta but still explore the possibility of the 3°20’ gandanta.

There is, of course, a difference between a gandanta planet at the end of a water sign or beginning of a fire sign. Planets at the end of water have a knot around emotional attachments and there is a resistance to let go and change because we want things to say in some ideal state – even if that ideal state is long past and rationally we know it can’t continue or no longer exists. Planets in gandanta at the end of water can be stuck in a past emotional outlook and have a difficult time releasing the attachment to the past and the emotions that go with it. Planets at the beginning of fire have a knot around inspiration and moving toward a new way of thinking or being. Planets in gandanta at the beginning of fire can be stuck with initiating change and resist getting started. Yet the gandanta planet in water can sense the new beginning in fire even as it hangs on to the past. Likewise, the gandanta planet in fire is aware of the residual energy of the past as it moves forward. So, the distinction is a subtle one. But which side of the dividing line the planet is on gives keys to unraveling how we are stuck. The lower energy of the sign will show the actions that tighten the knot, while the higher energy of the sign will show the actions that will loosen the knot.

It is interesting to note that the end of water and beginning of fire signs are both in the infant state of Baaladi Avastha. These gandanta points can be places where we are like a baby. Hanging on to things that make us feel safe and secure at the end of water, and wanting to move about per our own inspirations. But it seems, either way, that someone or something outside of our self is oppressing and that is our excuse or story for being stuck. That oppression is an illusion. Planets in gandanta need to pop the bubble of illusion, cut through the emotional attachments to a past story we think defines us, and cut through the excuses that prevent us from moving forward. There is a lot of inner work to be done here to unravel the many strands in the knot. It is a process as each strand exposes itself to our consciousness through our interactions with others and the world. The lessons of a planet are greatest when gandanta, but so are the spiritual and evolutionary rewards.

Miscellaneous Bhava considerations

 1)  Renting exclusively to Natural Benefics

  •         Landlords are strengthned when they have only tenants as a benefic. This means that neither of their Rashis (tara grah) can hold a malefic
  • what about natural benefics in Cancer and Leo? - it gives a boost to the bhava
  • Natural Benefic in Rashi and the lord as a natural malefic in other Rashi? -it does soften the impact of the malefic in its own rashi

2) Landlords are weakned when they have only malefics as tenants

    • This means that neither of their tara grah can hold a benefic
    • what about natural malefics in Cancer and Leo?
    • Is a single malefic enough in a Rashi?
3) Natural Benefic 10th away from any bhava strengthen the Bhava (power of ten)

4) Natural Benefic  (especially Jupiter) 10th from a Natural malefic, (not looking for an exclusive Benefic)

    • A good side of Mars will be brought out

    • A good side of Saturn will be brought out
5) Venus and Mercury in 3/11 relationship - not more than 7 degrees apart
Writing, communication, Oratory and enjoy themseves a lot

6) Natural Malefic tenth away from Natural benefic

    - Will diminish the NB in some way, possibly bhava

Solar Eclipse April 20 2023

There will be a Solar Hybrid Eclipse on April 20, 2023. A hybrid eclipse is an eclipse that looks like a total eclipse from one angle and an annular eclipse from another. This eclipse is also predicted to give a short display of Baily’s Beads, beads of sunlight that produce a diamond-ring effect.

The eclipse on April 20th will take place in Ashwini nakshatra at 5 degrees of Aries. This will take place one day before Jupiter enters Aries and Ashwini nakshatra. Jupiter will conjunct the eclipse point on May 15th. When an eclipse takes place and then a transiting planet conjuncts the eclipse point later, as in this case, the conjunction normally triggers some type of event or even a variety of events, on different levels, throughout the world. In this case, Jupiter might have a predominantly beneficial effect. For example, Ashwini is a nakshatra connected with the Ashwini Kumars, the mythological healers. They were also the proverbial ambulance drivers of the gods, driving their golden chariots, drawn by swift horses, across the heavens in order to rescue the gods when they were injured in battle. This symbolism, mixed with Jupiter’s generous nature, might symbolize various events or initiatives that are aimed at rescuing or bringing aid to people in need. This could apply to refugees, people who are in distress due to war, or people who have experienced any type of natural disaster.
Jupiter’s influence on the eclipse point might be felt for a period of about 21 days on either side of May 15th. In this respect, it is interesting that the Biden Administration, in the USA, is scheduled to formally announce the that the Covid pandemic is no longer a public health emergency on May 11th. Of course that announcement is only for the USA, but it is an example of a positive event that might be similar to other events or trends in other parts of the world during the same period.

Jupiter Transit to Aries - 2023

On April 21, 2023, Jupiter leaves the sign of Pisces and enters Aries. It will remain there until May 1, 2024. When Jupiter changes signs, it sends waves of expansive energy in new directions. It brings knowledge, prosperity, opportunity and positive support wherever it transits and wherever it casts its glance.

This Jupiter transit will be unique, since it enters the sign of Aires and the nakshatra of Ashwini one day after a solar eclipse in Aries. The fact that it begins its transit on the heels of an eclipse makes the twelve month period of this transit one that is saturated with spiritual energy. That means that the entire year tends to promote the development of intuition, introspection and deeper insights. It’s a great year for giving up some of your programing and stories and trade them for a more clear-headed look at your life.

During this time, Jupiter will also conjunct Rahu. This is a combination called Guru Chandala Yoga. In a natal chart, this yoga is said to make a person a heretic. Of course, in ancient times, and even in more recent history, a heretic was someone who didn’t believe or act according to the prevailing religious institutions. They were marked as outcasts and rejected by society. People who held a different belief were feared by the rest of society. They were marginalized, criticized, bullied, tortured and even burned at the stake.

In modern times, however, there is more toleration of various belief systems. Well, maybe that is true in developed countries where people are educated and where the laws protect religious freedom and individual expression, but that doesn’t mean that some people don’t still fear and hate others who aren’t part of the mainstream. In fact, with an eighteen year period of Rahu going on in the charts of the USA, UK, European Union, Israel, and (after December 22, 2023) Russia, a large percentage of the world is now in a period where xenophobia, intolerance, bullying and hatred are actually on the rise.

Jupiter’s conjunction with Rahu over the course of this next twelve months, will have two expressions. For some people, it will increase intolerance, xenophobia, religious fanaticism, and political extremism. For others, it will do the opposite, bringing more awareness to the need for promoting mutual acceptance and how to harmonize the many diverse groups in our world. In other words, this transit will probably further polarize the two different sides, and that will bring an increase in the public outcry for fairness and justice, as well as more demonstrations and heated disagreements.

That said, in the charts of individuals, Jupiter’s transit of Aries will give a variety of results. Here is a brief description of how the transit might affect you, based on the house Jupiter is transiting in your horoscope. Remember, we use a different zodiac in Vedic astrology, so you have to look at the birth date ranges for each of the Sun signs carefully. If you happen to know your Vedic Moon sign, Lagna (Ascendant)sign or Arudha Lagna sign, then you can read the results for those signs as well. If you happen to know all of those signs, you could potentially read the predictions given for four signs. That may seem confusing, but each of the descriptions reflects a different perspective on Jupiter’s transit, and will tend to manifest in its own way.
