Why Guru Purnima on Ashad Purnima?
The reason being that both Sun and Moon are in full
strength during Ashad Purnima.
Moon is in full strength every
month on Poornima. But Sun is full strength only in the month of Ashad as it is the highest
in the sky. It has the maximum chest bala or motional strength. From here, Sun
begins its southern journey.
Ashad Nakshtra (purva Ashada or
Uttar Ashada) are in the constellation of Sagittarius. The constellation of
Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter (guru), and therefore it is perfect time to
honor your Guru.
