Any time someone is eating too much cheese, ice cream or consuming too much dairy (milk/yogurt), then we have the classic Mom/Breast Milk/lack of nurturing symbol set up and they are going through the motions. There’s a lot of fat calories to ice cream and cheese, too. Check out a person’s diet with great care if they are coming to you for medical support and help. A person’s diet tells me so much and it’s easy to see it in the natal chart as well if you know what you’re looking for and what planet or luminary rules the food or fluid they are consuming.
Cheese is a Moon-ruled food. Cancer sun sign and those with a Moon with three or more hard aspects may eat too much and cause weight gain. A little goes a long way.
The Moon rules over the mineral potassium and the vitamin, B-2 (Riboflavin). In the metabolism, we have many chemical exchanges and balances. One is the sodium (salt) and postassium balance. Too much salt, and the cells in our body absorb more and more water. The more salt we consume, the more engorged the cells become with water. Water means more wieght put on the person as a result. Potassium is there to force the excessive water OUT of the cells. Between the two mineral functions, our cells don’t get too much or too little water in them. There is a balance.
People who have “water weight” are easy to pick out. All you have to do is ask them to hold up their arm. As you gently press your fingers on the top of their lower arm, you’ll feel the water beneath the skin. It feels like soft, moveable jelly beneath the skin. And it usually collects first, in a person’s feet and ankles. Later, in their hands and fingers. And then, the whole body begins to hold the extra water. If they come with these symptoms, then suspect water weight issues.
Our ocean contains salt or sodium. And our emotions are symbolized by water. This combination can create “water weight” gain.
Salt (sodium) is ruled by Mars. When a person is a salt eater their Mars will have more hard aspects than soft ones. And if there is a hard aspect between Moon and Mars, then the sodium – salt balance. will be affected. As a result of this, the person will have a ‘salt’ craving. And this can come from either high or low cortisol level in the individual. Mars rules the Adrenal glands and the hormones it dispenses into our bloodstream. Cortisol, one of the hormones, if high or low (outside normal bounds of functioning in a human being), will increase a person’s salt hunger/craving. This is a huge red flag and should be tested out. When cortisol is within normal bounds, the salt craving/hunger goes away. (Please go to: http://medicalastrologybyeileennauman.blogspot.com, November 2009 archives for these three important blogs for in depth information on high cortisol).
Vitamin B-2 has a part to play in this as well. Without enough of this important vitamin, high blood pressure may be the result. There is a synchronistic partnership between B-2 and Potassium. B-2 is also, in a secondary way, instrumental in lowering sodium in the body. Check out your B-2 deficiency symtpoms in my book, MEDICAL ASTROLOGY. They are all there. If you have these deficiency symtpoms, then this may be the reason for high sodium in your body (and high blood pressure and possibly water weight issues). B-2 also plays a secondary part in the health of our Adrenal glands, too. Without enough B-2, the adrenals grow sluggish. And then we can’t handle stress as well. It also is going to affect your cortisol level.
Eating too much salt increases blood pressure and over time, high blood pressure is the result. Also, especially in women, who have their sodium high and potassium levels low, they get what I call “water weight.” Water weight is simply a situation where too much sodium is in the body and not enough potassium. The cells of the body are engorged with water. We even have ‘fat cells’ at this point! This kind of weight increase can mean a hundred pounds or more over time. I once had a secretary who had water weight issues. I suggested she take raw apple cider vinegar. It is high in potassium and is a natural counter-balance for high sodium in a person’s body.
Apple cider vinegar
You can take one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in 4-8 ounces of warm or cool water, stir it up (and you can add honey if you don’t like the sour taste) and drink it two to three times a day. She did this and lost one-hundred and fifty pounds of weight. And she did it in six months with the monitoring of her doctor! It was an amazing transformation. I would caution you to be in touch with your health practioner about this because you can continue to take too much vinegar, i.e., natural potassium, and cause other problems. Let them monitor you for best results. (A common blood test will also show your sodium-potassium balance and should be undertaken before you start a course of apple cider vinegar). Tests are a medical astrologer’s best friend because it proves out what is in the person’s chart, but also engages the health professional who can be the eyes and ears for your client.
Go to the health food store and find “raw” apple cider vinegar. It should not be clear. Instead, it will have some cloudiness to it.
Of course, some take potassium tablets you can get from any health food store, but many people have digestive problems with them. I recommend the apple cider vinegar route unless someone absolutely hates the idea of consuming vinegar-water-honey combo. You can also look at the foods you eat. But if you’re over weight, you don’t need a lot of banannas which are high in fat and potassium. That’s counter intuitive.
And homeopathically, there is a remedy made of vinegar, but this route should be overseen by a professional homeopath.
