Third house of astrology

Seed Principle: The things that feed us through the senses and form our values (second house) then become the source of our individual, self-willed actions and interests through the third house. Here our curious, individualized mind competes over ideas and develops strength personal ingenuity and courage.
The body part associated with third house is the neck arms shoulders and hands. This is the area of life where we are flexible and make adjustments. We turn her our head from side to side and look around here. Then based on that we reach out into the world to grasp something for ourselves or to experiment and play with in order to develop our skills. This is the nature of the third house.
Third house people include siblings, coworkers and other individual peers. For instance a fellow manager. A fellow student in the same class. It is with these people we test our ideas, compete with, and determine who is an ally and who may be an enemy.
Activities: Writing, athletics, games, fun and stimulating activities, pursuing our personal desires. The third house has to do with the initial stages of learning, (upadesa) where our curiosity pulls us into something new, novel and exciting. We have many interests, and many people we learn with along the way.
Environment: Places where we have fun in pursuit of things we enjoy for ourselves, regardless of what anyone thinks of it. A workshop, a casino, Boudoir, athletic field, classroom, bar, any place where you are having a raucous, good time
Objects: Computer, pen, video game console, weights (for weight lifting), karaoke machine, most electronic gadgets are third house in nature.
Planetary Indicators: Mercury and Mars or the main planetary indicators of the third house. Mercury has to do with curiosity and communication. Mars has to do with competition and aggression.
Guna / Lesson: Personal Happiness
General Explanation:
As the expression of our personal desires, the first “Kama” house – it shows the things we really enjoy doing, regardless of what anyone thinks of it. There is a certain raucous, animalistic / sibling energy to it. Healthy arguments (or unhealthy arguments) are a part of this area of life. Yet there is a stimulated, challenging, excitable and unpredictable quality to the third house.
Our values (second house) lead us to explore certain interests. There will be things we like to do based on the values we have. But also, as we grow and develop there will be new interests and things to explore. The third house is the first Kama house, the place where we pursue our individual interests above all else.
Here our curious, individualized mind competes over ideas and tries things for itself, including things it knows may be “wrong”. In the third house we want to know for our self. We are developing ingenuity and courage, including the courage to act and think independently and challenge authority. We must act with self will as an individual in order to establish boundaries, grow and flourish, test our beliefs and experiment. Yet the third house is very limited. There is no grace flowing there, no higher wisdom beyond satisfying the desires of the moment. There is only so much we are able to accomplish by our own individual efforts. It takes God’s grace to make all actions complete.
The third house is the most egoistic house in the astrology chart. Essentially, it is the house of ego and where we are establishing a healthy one. Understanding the nature of our separate self has a lot to do with understanding the deeper lessons of the third house.
The ego is the agency through which our separate, corporeal existence here on Earth must operate and function. We need to protect ourselves, both physically and intellectually. We need courage and intelligence to move through the world and to figure things out for ourselves. Yet, if that is an end in itself, rather than a means to an end, there will be immense suffering.
The third house gets us involved with certain types of people, competitors and those whom we test ourselves against. This is why the third house is related to siblings. Our siblings, and other equals are those whom we must battle and compete against. The courage, intelligence and experimentation of the third house allow our values and value system to evolve to a point beyond the entrenched habits of the past and our childhood. It is the courage and self will of the third house and its relentless independence that gives us the confidence to take care of ourselves in the world. But this is also the place of personal selfishness, lust and aggression.
Evolutionary Process:
“From an amoral and stimulated posture, to battling and competing with others in order to fulfill our desires, to the courage to pursue and experience the truth is the Evolutionary process of the third house.
The effects of planets in the third house:
The Sun in the third house brings a personal focus on interests, self-will, sports and competition. There may be conflicts with authority, especially the father or government and a lot of ego in this placement. Self educated and highly skilled, also attached to the fruits of their actions.
Moon in the third house brings a lot of emotional attachment to desires. The emotional mind will be very stimulated and restless. Yet, they will have a lot of changing interests and many friends associated with those stimulated pursuits.
Mars the third house brings courage, strength and vitality to pursue interests with passion. There may be arguing with siblings and other peers and in general. A love of sports and competition is seen and enthusiasm for self growth and surmounting physical challenges. There may be ruthlessness.
Mercury the third house shows a skilled communicator. An interest in languages, writing and communication could be seen. Although high intelligence and skill level is likely, moving from one thing to the next may be a problem. Cooperation among peers comes naturally.
Jupiter and the third house show a leader among peers. There will be a rational mind which looks for deeper understanding to the deep questions in life. A restless, searching and philosophical nature will be seen. On may battle over religion and philosophies.
Venus in the third house shows interest in art, creativity, relationships and beauty. Excessive sensual stimulation must be watched however. May feel overwhelmed by competition and unable to stand up and fight for themselves. May be confused about when to hold ground and went to compromise.
Saturn in the third house shows an interest in traditional teachings, conservative and practical methods. Yet, one may resist change and be slow to adapt to new circumstances. One may lack courage, fearing conflict and embarrassment. May have friends who are older.
Rahu in the third house gives potential for high intelligence through experimentation and play. The native will challenge teachers and authority figures. They will mistake information for wisdom and embarrass themselves by arguing without having all the facts.
Ketu in the third house, and one will have established a mastery of skills and information, yet they doubt themselves. Instead, they will seek a teacher, one who takes them beyond the world of personal interests, personal power and

What is Astrology – History?

Ch. 1. The Creation

“I prostrate before the lotus-feet of Lord Vighneswara, offspring of Uma, the cause of destruction of
sorrow, who is served by Mahābhutas (the five great elements of the universe) etc., who has the face
of a tusker and who consumes the essence of Kapittha and Jambu fruits.”

1-4. Offering his obeisance to all-knowing Mahārishi Parāśar and with folded hands, Maitreya said: “O venerable Mahārishi, Jyotish, the supreme limb of the Vedas, has three divisions, viz. Horā, Ganita and Samhita. Among the said three divisions Horā, or the general part of Jyotish is still more
excellent. I desire to know of its glorious aspects from you. Be pleased to tell me, how this Universe is created? How does it end? What is the relationship of the animals, born on this earth, with the
heavenly bodies? Please speak elaborately”

5-8. Mahārishi Parāśar answered. O Brahmin, your query has an auspicious purpose in it for the
welfare of the Universe. Praying Lord Brahma and Śrī Sarasvatī, his power (and consort) and Sūrya,
the leader of the Grahas and the cause of Creation, I shall proceed to narrate to you the science of
Jyotish, as heard through Lord Brahma. Only good will follow the teaching of this Vedic Science to the students, who are peacefully disposed, who honour the preceptors (and elders), who speak only truth and are godfearing. Woeful forever, doubtlessly, will it be to impart knowledge of this science to an unwilling student, to a heterodox and to a crafty person.

9-12. Śrī Vishnu, who is the Lord (of all matters), who has undefiled spirit, who is endowed with the
three Gunas, although he transcends the grip of Gunas (Gunatita), who is the Author of this Universe,
who is glorious, who is the Cause and who is endowed with valour, has no beginning. He authored
the Universe and administers it with a quarter of his power. The other three quarters of Him, filled
with nectar, are knowable only to the philosophers (of maturity). The Principal Evolver, who is both
perceptible and imperceptible in Vasudeva. The Imperceptible part of the Lord is endowed with dual
powers, while the Perceptible with triple powers.

13-15. The three powers are Śrī Shakti (Mother Lakshmi) with Sattva-Gun, Bhū Shakti (Mother-Earth) with Rajo-Gun and Nīl Shakti with Tamo-Gun. Apart from the three, the fourth kind of Vishnu, influenced by Śrī Shakti and Bhoo Shakti, assumes the form of Shankarshan with Tamo-Gun, of Pradyumna with Rajo-Gun and of Anirudh with Sattva-Gun.

16-17. Mahatatwa, Ahamkar and Ahamkar Murti and Brahma, are born from Shankarshan,
Pradyumna and Anirudh, respectively. All these three forms are endowed with all the three Gunas,
with predominance of the Gun due to their origin.

18-19. Ahamkar is of three classes, i.e. with Sattvic, Rajasic and Tamasic dispositions. Divine
class, sensory organs and the five primordial compounds (space, air, fire, water and earth) are,
respectively, from the said three Ahamkaras.

20. Lord Vishnu, coupled with Śrī Shakti, rules over the three worlds. Coupled with Bhoo Shakti, He is Brahma causing the Universe. Coupled with Neel Shakti, He is Shiva, destroying the Universe.
21-24. The Lord is in all beings and the entire Universe is in Him. All beings contain both Jivatma and Paramatmāńśas. Some have predominance of the former, while yet some have the latter in
predominance. Paramatmāńś is predominant in the Grahas, viz. Sūrya etc. and Brahma, Shiva and
others. Their powers, or consorts too have predominance of Paramatmāńś. Others have more of
Jivatmāńś.

Ch. 2. Great Incarnations
1. Maitreya: “O Mahārishi Parāśar, are the incarnations of Vishnu, viz. Śrī Ram, Śrī Krishn etc.,
endowed with Jivāńś?

2. Maharishi Parashar: “O Brahmin, the four incarnations, viz. Ram, Krishn, Narasimh and Varah are
wholly with Paramatmāńś. The other incarnations (than these, out of the ten) have in them Jivāńś too.

3-4. The unborn Lord has many incarnations. He has incarnated, as the 9 (Nava) Grahas to
bestow on the living beings the results due to their Karmas. He is Janardan. He assumed the
auspicious form of Grahas to destroy the demons (evil forces) and sustain the divine beings.

5-7. From Sūrya the incarnation of Ram, from Candr that of Krishn, from Mangal that of Narasimh,
from Budh that of Buddha, from Guru that of Vaman, from Śukr that of Parashuram, from Śani that of Kurma (Tortoise), from Rahu that of Varah (Pig) and from Ketu that of Meen (Fish) occurred. All other incarnations than these also are through the Grahas. The beings with more Paramatmāńś are called divine beings.

8-13. The beings with more Jivatmāńś are (mortal) beings. The high degree of Paramatmāńś
from the Grahas, viz. Sūrya etc. did incarnate, as Ram, Krishn etc. After completing the mission, the
Paramatmāńśas (of the respective) Grahas again merge (in the respective) Grahas. The Jivatma
portions from the Grahas take births, as human beings and live their lives according to their
Karmas and again merge in the Grahas. And at the time of Great Destruction the Grahas as well
merge in Lord Vishnu. The one, who knows of all these, will become versed in the knowledge of
the past, present and future. Without a knowledge of Jyotish these cannot be known. Hence,
everyone should have a knowledge of Jyotish, particularly the Brahmin. The one, who, devoid
of knowledge of Jyotish, blames this Vedic Science will go to the hell called ‘Raurava’ and will be
reborn blind.

Moon and Ketu Conjunction

Moon Ketu Conjunction
What is moon? Astrologically, moon is mind, mother. Moon is very important as the nakshatra in which moon is present is considered as the birth nakshatra or janma nakshatra or birth constellation. In match making also moon is very important. Moon is considered as a feminine planet, very cold and moist one.
Why moon’s placement is important in a horoscope? Moon as I said represents the mother, mind. Both are important as far as a person is considered. So the placement of moon in a person’s horoscope is important as well. The placement indicates the strength of moon as well.
What else does moon represent? It represents queens, public relations, people who can offer psychological help, people who can heal, people who provide comfort – like hotel, food, nurses, medical professions, public services etc. It also represents a person’s emotions.
What does a strong moon represent? People who can offer mental support to others. They will be pleasant in speech also. They know how to pacify a person.
Moon also represent water element in a human body.
What does afflicted moon represent? Mentally bit unstable, people who want isolated thinking, emotional imbalance for mother etc.
What is Ketu in astrology? Ketu represents the tail of demon. (and Rahu, the head). While the head is fast moving forward and looks into things; which means to think forward, the tail represents the past. To put it simple, it is just what we have experienced in the past. Ketu concerns with life experiences, detachment from worldly affairs etc. Ketu have a tendency towards liberation, moksha, mysterious knowledge etc.
What professions are ruled by Ketu? Doctors, Magicians, medical practitioners, astrology as well as militants, spiritual writers, religious professions etc.
Ketu if properly placed in horoscope – Luxury, Wisdom etc.
Ketu if poorly placed in horoscope – Depression, lesser concentration, worries, anxiety etc.
Ketu makes a person to lead a simple life, helps people without expecting anything in return. And a malefic Ketu simply reverses what just said ! So a negative Ketu could affect social behaviors.
Ketu could bring in lack of trust in marriages and relationships.
Now the big question, what happens if the energies of moon and ketu meets each other?
In one sentence the answer will be like this – Mind becomes isolated. The person won’t have any type of attachments, no emotional attachments etc. But this comes through a series of hilarious disappointments, if this conjunction don’t have any positive aspect. Being a headless planet, the mind will be deprived of any direction as well.
Since Ketu deals mainly with things happened in the past, the Ketu-Moon conjunction also indicates that present mother having a similar connection in the past life too.
On the positive side, this is best planetary conjunction for leading a spiritual life, healing jobs, research oriented jobs etc. The person will be less greedy and doesn’t have any kind of obsession too. The person has the capacity to learn from mistakes.
Astrologically, moon is a benefic planet and ketu is malefic. So a conjunction of this is said to be malefic in nature. Lot of murderers, serial killers have this conjunction. But a strong Jupiter or its aspect can do wonders to this conjunction by making it positive or less harm. The person could be mysterious, anxious, unable to make decisions, also it makes the native a –difficult to understand personality.
This conjunction in 6,8,12 is considered not good. But if it is in good sign, it can do wonders too. One classic example is Donald Trump.
How to strengthen yourself? Since it mainly deals with mind, do meditation to strengthen the mind and get the emotions under control.
Before concluding,
1. Please don’t jump into conclusions without looking into entire chart
2. Please give importance to full planets and its aspects on this (especially jupiter’s)
3. Degree of planets do matter in every conjunction.

Saturn and Mars Planetary war from April 1st to April 3rd

April 1st to April 3rd, 2018 – Saturn and Mars will meet face to face and in astrological terms, it is called “Planetary War”.
Know that at any given moment something or the other is happening in the cosmos and it is affecting us based on our birth chart. Just like how we equip ourselves for a storm or rainfall as predicted by the weather channel, a little bit of awareness about the cosmic weather will help us avoid unnecessary problems and frustrations. Awareness is the key factor to handle any planetary influence
Saturn and Mars will meet in Purva Ashadha Nakshatra which is ruled by Venus in the sign of Sagittarius which is ruled by Jupiter.
Here are some Do’s and Don’ts that will help you sail through
  1. Avoid rash driving at any cost. It is wise to follow the rules and take extra precaution. Do not be in a hurry.
  2. Be judicious in your choice of words and activities as Mercury is also debilitated and retrograde now
  3. Be careful when you are dealing with sharp objects like knife etc in the kitchen or elsewhere.
  4. When there is conflict, be aware of it. Do not react. Purva Ashadha nakshatra is symbolized by the hand fan – when you fan fire (Mars), it gets wild. Resist the temptation to think that you are right about everything
  5. Avoid Aggressiveness – Choose your battles wisely and if you are unable to do that just postpone it.
  6. Use the energy wisely – This is a great time to get into a fitness routine and complete projects and tasks. Purva Ashadha’s deity is Apah which means water. When water does not have a proper direction or channel to flow, it may cause havoc. Similarly, when the intense energy brought forth by this conjunction does not have a proper channel or direction it may cause a lot of unwanted trouble.
  7. Look out for hidden information before making any important decisions. If possible, avoid making any major decisions during this period.
  8. Winnowing basket is another symbol associated with Purva Ashadha – Make a promise to yourself to let go of old habits or patterns. You can, in fact, use the energy from this conjunction to help you with that. Most of us may feel like we are being tossed on a winnowing basket, but know that the end result is going to be amazing! We can shed the unwanted and unnecessary and become pure and new.
  9. Purva Nakshatra energy will not let you give up so easily. It will provide you with the much needed willpower to persevere and help you see through to the light at the end of the tunnel. So if you are facing obstacles and limitations imposed by Saturn, do not give up. Saturn does not want you to succumb to the limitations and obstacles, Saturn in a way will inspire you to sail through it. Now, with the energy and determination of Mars, there is a lot of positives we can take home from this conjunction as well.
  10. Spread Happiness and Joy – It is in times like this we truly have the opportunity to brighten up someone’s life. Know that everyone is going through this and do the best you can to help people around you. Purva Ashadha Nakshatra is known to spread joy and happiness and make life worth living.
  11. Purva Ashadha has the power to conceal thoughts, feelings, emotions, etc. Know that during this period you can never tell anyone’s inner thoughts just by looking at their outer expressions. So give people the benefit of doubt and do not get into arguments and fights.
  12. Purva Ashadha’s power is that of invigoration (varchograhana shakti).  “Inhale and Energize, Exhale and Relax” – and this takes us to a state of perfect balance and ultimate stillness. The term Inhale and Energize signifies Mars and Exhale (let go) and Relax is very apt for what Saturn wants us to do.
  13. Prayers to Lord Skanda (Mars) Lord Hanuman or Lord Shiva (Saturn), Lord Ayyappa (Saturn & Mars) and Goddess Lakshmi or Tripura Sundari (Purva Ashadha) will help you greatly.
  14. Start your day by offering prayers to the Sun God. You can also listen to Aditya Hrudayam Stotram every morning during sunrise.  Lord Rama was baffled looking at the mighty army of Ravana and that is when Sage Agastya imparts the Aditya Hrudayam Stotram to Lord Rama that helped him win the battle against the demon king.

here is more explanation.
The stage is set for the biggest battle of the year in Vedic astrology, or Jyotish –
  •  Mars Saturn conjunction in Sagittarius.  In Jyotish, we call this alignment a graha yuddha or a planetary war.   A planetary war occurs when two planets are within one astronomical degree of each other.
  • Mars (or Mangal) is the hot planet of aggression, ambition, competition, action, and conflict.  Saturn (or Shani) is the cold planet of obstruction, challenges, delays, discipline, responsibility, and adversity.  Mars represents your siblings and Saturn denotes your subordinates.
  • Mars (Mangal) and Saturn (Shani) are incompatible roommates who both want things “my way or the highway”.  Neither wants to budge and both feel they are right.  Mars likes to be daring; Saturn is cautious.  Mars needs to be in charge.  Saturn shuns being told what to do. Saturn is slow, strategic and seeks safety.
  • Mars and Saturn in Sagittarius create a determination to get things done.  There’s a drive to accomplish things on your time frame and only as you see fit.  This can literally wear you and others out trying to meet the deadline of having it done “by yesterday”.  The result could be long-term health problems.
  • Symbolically, Mars represents the armed forces, police, militia, and those who are “bearing arms”.  Thus, it can personify people in places of power.  Mars is aggressive in nature. “The red planet” often acts without thinking when passionate emotions arise.  Saturn can signify people who are in service-oriented positions or those of lower socio-economic classes.  Saturn is mythologically depicted as dark hued, thus representing people of color, as well as foreigners.  We’ve witnessed conflict escalate over the last few weeks about gun control and the gun laws.
  • Mars and Saturn are both “bhumy karakas” or significators of  “earthy” matters and property, so these could be adversely impacted as the planets grow closer.
  • Additionally, Mars and Saturn signify technology.  Technology issues were exhibited via the heightened challenges which have been revealed with Facebook’s privacy issues as well as Under Armour’s security breach.  We have the conflict of safety and security vs. the aggressive use of information.
  • As Mars and Saturn represent the blood and muscle tissue, respectively, in Ayurveda, you’ll feel a greater urge to be active. Be careful of injuries which can result from recklessness. Pushing yourself relentlessly can push Pitta (Mars) and Vata (Saturn) out of balance.
