How to Do Self Griha Pravesh Puja

Puja in Hindu religion are not a simple affair. It requires elaborate arrangement, also considerable knowledge about the Vedic scriptures, which is precisely the reason behind people opting for pundits who are well learned and are specially trained for this purpose. However, under certain situations where availability of a learned Brahmin or a pundit becomes a problem, you can do the Griha Pravesh Puja all by yourself. Here is a detailed guide to help you regarding this process.

  • First of find out an auspicious date for the puja as per the Hindu calendar.
  • Once the date is fixed, clean the house and decorate it with flowers and draw a rangoli at the entrance.
    • Enter the house with the photo of Ganesh in your hand and place him on the north eastern corner of your house.
    • Light two lamps in front of the idol and offer him sweets, flowers and fruits as prasad. You can also place a pot filled with Ganga water or water from any other river source in a copper pot in front of the idol. If you are following this ritual, then make sure you place four mango leaves on the mouth the pot and cover the opening with a coconut.
    • Hang a garland made from mango leaves at the main entrance to ward off negative energy.
    • Light a fire in the kitchen and boil over milk in a new vessel. Once the milk has boiled over add some rice and sugar in it and distribute it as prasad among guests.
    • Perform some mangal arti in front of the idol, by lighting a camphor lamp. You can also blow a conch shell or just ring bells both of which have a very pleasant effect on the surrounding.
    • You can then proceed to break the coconut from the pot and distribute it as prasad to guests. Sprinkle the water from the pot with the help of mango leaves everywhere in the house.
    • Last but not the least; do not leave your house for at least three days after the puja is completed.
